Golden halo magic mushrooms are popular mushrooms because of their hallucinogenic effects. It is also easier to grow and cultivate than other mushrooms making it a favorite for novice mushroom growers. It can grow between 3 and 20 centimeters and is generally 20 mm in size with a 10–20 mm diameter. When they are harvested, they are sold in small groups (each weighing 20–30 grams) or individually (each one being considered on 0.1 gram). The stem is generally 1 to 1.5 cm in diameter and has a length similar to that of the cap (10–20 mm).
The cap is often outlined with white fibrils or hairs that can be seen when it is magnified. The color of the cap and stem ranges from pale yellow to cinnamon brown or rusty red, all with white edges. The flesh is yellow in color and translucently thin. Caps can sometimes be cut open, revealing an inner milky-white halo, which was the source of its name.
